DAVID JAMES EARNS BARCLAYS MERIT AWARD
- England goalkeeper rewarded for breaking all-time appearance record –
Portsmouth goalkeeper David James was today honoured by Barclays in recognition of him breaking the all-time Barclays Premier League appearance record. The England international reached 536 appearances – surpassing the total of Gary Speed – in Portsmouth’s victory over Manchester City last weekend.
James has played at least 14 games in each season since the inception of the Barclays Premier League and is part of an exclusive club that includes Ryan Giggs to have played in every season since the 1992/93 campaign.
David James said: “To reach this landmark is a huge personal achievement and hopefully I can keep going for a while yet. I am very proud to receive this merit award from Barclays in recognition for all the hard work I’ve put in over the past 17 years.”
