Day two in China's capital and today was all about two very important press conferences. First all four teams taking part in the Barclays Asia Trophy - Hull, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Beijing Guoan held 30 minute pressers with Beijing and international media. Secondly, a Barclays Spaces for Sports media event, announcing a new £400k investment in China by Barlays. Lots of very important stakeholders from Barclays China, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as the charity partner, Compassion for Migrant Children.
During all this we had three BPL player appearances to manage, as well as inviting all the media to the BS4S event running directly after the main team press conference. We had VIPs to look after, MC's, interpreters, speeches, films to show, media interviews on three different floors, it was all happening. Candice, Wayne and the Text100 team did a fantastic job, it was all hands on deck with six of their team helping me out. It was also very insightful working with the Chinese media. Very, very different mentality, attitude and approach to press conferences. Everything is more laid back and very respectful, but takes a lot longer. There's no five minute chats - which plays havoc with our timings. The media actually read press releases with real interest, and have insightful questions?!
We managed media appearances with BPL players Robert Green, Jamie O'Hara and Tony Warner, the keeper from Hull City. Gianfranco Zola has been wandering around the hotel, and Harry Redknapp hosted a classic press conference, where he asked his interpreter to translate what one of the English journalists had asked - classic Harry. We also started the day with some fantastic coverage in one of the leading Beijing dailies with the BAT trophy and Guoan players, check the image below. Loads more photos from today on show here
