Madrid submit official 2018 Ryder Cup application

Lexis Sport & Entertainment is coming to the end of what has been a whirlwind few days helping the region of Madrid submit their official application for the 2018 Ryder Cup.

With a packed schedule each day to entertain the arriving Ryder Cup Europe delegation, we've been busy on the ground in Madrid managing media interviews and photography with bid ambassadors including Spanish golfing legends Seve Ballesteros, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Meeting Seve was an absolute privilege and it was encouraging to see him looking well, despite his obvious frailties at yesterday's bid presentation. Prior to this, we took a trip out to the proposed 2018 course venue at Tres Cantos, just 30km from Madrid - a truly spectacular natural venue that will provide a fantastic setting for the drama of the Ryder Cup.

Despite a hectic programme of activity, the bid team have pulled out all the stops to showcase why the region of Madrid should host the 2018 event, including trips to Real Madrid's Bernabeu Stadium where Ryder Cup Europe members were presented with personalised shirts and the Madrid Open Tennis at La Caja Magica to watch Roger Federer and Andy Murray in action. With Atletico also triumphing in the Europa League Final on Tuesday night, the delegation have experienced first hand the passion that Madrilenos have for sport and how it underpins life in the region.

The successful bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup will be chosen in April 2011.
