As 2012 draws near, there is a cadre of people and a growing body of opinion, which thinks sports policy and even the structure of sport in this country should change. Think of the Centre for Social Justice’s report a few weeks back and the imminent DCMS Select Committee Football Governance report as symbolic of this.
One of the areas, which needs a better airing, is the role of the private sector in financing sport below the elite level and on making sports better at dealing with local, social problems.
This was one of the issue under discussion at Lexis last week, when we played host to our client Premier Rugby Ltd and a number of private and public sector players in the sports field who were drawn together to help judge this year’s Premiership Rugby Parliamentary Rugby awards.
Leicester Tigers and Saracens got voted through to the final at Parliament on July 6th but all the work got enthusiastic praise from the judges, as you can see from this video with Dr Keith Gilbert: Rugby In The Community
